Light Manipulation in Photography
Seeing light
as a tool,
not a given
An 8-week hands-on program covering how light behaves, bends, and transforms a photograph - from a single window to a full studio setup.
Each week pairs short concept videos with a practical assignment you shoot and submit. Feedback comes from instructors who actually look at your frames, not automated scoring.
Hard vs. soft light
You'll photograph the same subject under a bare bulb and a 90cm softbox, then compare shadow edges and skin texture. The difference becomes obvious fast.
Window light & time of day
North-facing windows give a flat, consistent light that portrait painters relied on for centuries. This module explains why and how to replicate it without a studio.
Modifying with what you have
A white wall, a foam board, or a bed sheet - each changes the light differently. Assignments here use only gear most participants already own.
Flash ratios & fill
Controlling the balance between ambient and flash is what separates natural-looking results from the harsh, flat look most beginners get. We work through it step by step.
Every assignment is reviewed individually - you get written feedback on your specific frames, not a generic rubric score.
